The blaze began on Monday morning, April 8 at a residence on Long Ridge Road in Bedford, according to the Bedford Fire Department.

After crews arrived at the home at around 7:30 a.m., they searched the building and found no one inside. Firefighters then began dousing the flames, which were tearing through the sides and roof of the house.

As the fight against the blaze went on, crews from several departments, including Connecticut organizations, arrived at the scene to help and set up water sources on Twin Lakes Drive in Bedford and South Bedford Road in Pound Ridge.

Over the course of the response, almost 100,000 gallons of water were shuttled to the scene of the fire. The blaze also caused Long Ridge Road to close.

After several hours of putting out hot spots, crews realized an excavator would be needed to completely put out the fire. The blaze was finally extinguished by around 3 p.m.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
